CENTOS LINUX 8 WILL END IN 2021 AND SHIFT TO FOCUS TO CENTOS STREAM

Red Hat announced the end of supporting CentOS Linux 8 in 2021 and focused on developing CentOS Stream, a Red Hat Enterprise Linux commercial product (RHEL).

CentOS (Community Enterprise Operating System) is a stable and well-tested Linux distribution based on Red Hat's commercial Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

The first release of CentOS took place in May 2004 and instantly became a favorite among developers and system administrators, and was used as a free replacement for RHEL.

When support for CentOS Linux 8 runs out, Red Hat proposes to shift to CentOS Stream. There are minimal changes between CentOS 8 and CentOS Stream, but at the moment CentOS Stream is positioned as «upstream»  before the release of RHEL, Red Hat’s main commercial product.

If you want to migrate to CentOS Stream, this procedure is gonna be successful. However, it's not necessary to rely on «test polygon» CentOS Stream, if you have a complex IT infrastructure on which the business processes of the enterprise are based. Better choose a more reliable system.

If you use CentOS 8, there is still time to make a decision

You can consider alternatives, such as Debian or Ubuntu, which are currently the most popular OS in 2021.
